Seven Years' War
   The Seven Years' War (1756-63) was a conflict that broke out during the reign of louis XV between France, Austria, and Russia on one side, and England, Hanover, and Prussia on the other. its causes were the Austrian desire to retake Silesia and Franco-British colonial rivalry. Marked by great French losses on land (Rossbach), the sea, and in the colonies (the loss of French territory in India and canada), it cost France, by the terms of the Treaty of Paris, some of its most flourishing colonies. The war gave Silesia to Frederick II of Prussia under the terms of the Treaty of Huberts-bourg. In America, where the fighting had begun earlier in 1754, the conflict was known as the French and indian War.
